When it is needed
For a tooth that is too broken down to restore, a very loose tooth, an infection that cannot be treated with a root canal, a problem wisdom tooth or for orthodontic reasons. Beforehand Dr. Kirov examines the tooth, with an X-ray if needed, and discusses with you whether it can be saved.
How it works
The tooth is removed under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure but no pain during the procedure. Afterwards a gauze pad is pressed on the area to stop the bleeding.
Afterwards
For the first day, do not spit, rinse hard or drink through a straw, so the blood clot is not disturbed. Avoid tobacco and alcohol and eat soft food on the other side. Mild pain and swelling are normal for the first few days; if the pain gets worse after the third day, contact us.
What comes next
Once the area has healed, the missing tooth can be replaced, for example with a bridge, so the neighbouring teeth do not tilt.
NHIF
Tooth extraction is among the treatments the NHIF covers under its conditions. Ask us when you book.
