Why replace a missing tooth
When a tooth is missing, the neighbouring teeth gradually tilt into the gap and the opposing tooth can over-erupt. This changes your bite, makes chewing and cleaning harder and puts more load on the remaining teeth.
How it works
The teeth on either side of the gap are prepared under local anaesthetic and an impression is taken. You wear a temporary bridge until the permanent one is ready. At the next visit the bridge is tried in, your bite is checked and the bridge is cemented.
Materials
Bridges are made from zirconia or ceramic. The choice depends on the position, the chewing load and the look you want. We discuss the options and the cost in advance.
Caring for a bridge
Food collects under the replacement tooth, so as well as brushing, use bridge floss or interdental brushes. Dr. Kirov will show you how. Regular check-ups help a bridge last a long time.
