When to come in
Sensitivity to cold or sweets, pain when chewing, a dark spot or hole in a tooth, or food getting stuck between teeth are the common signs. Many cavities do not hurt at first, though, and are only found at a check-up.
How treatment works
After a local anaesthetic, the decayed tissue is removed carefully, keeping as much of the healthy tooth as possible. The tooth is rebuilt with a tooth-coloured composite filling, placed layer by layer and matched to the shade of your teeth.
Finally the filling is shaped so that your bite feels comfortable, and polished.
After the filling
You can eat as soon as the anaesthetic wears off. Regular brushing, flossing and check-ups help a filling last a long time.
NHIF
Part of cavity treatment is covered by the NHIF under its conditions. We tell you in advance what is covered and what is not.
The information on this page is general. Your treatment plan is decided after an examination with Dr. Ivan Kirov.
